Penny Levicree

Hi, I’m Penny!

I have lived and loved theatre all my life. I was born and grew up in The Netherlands the daughter of a choreographer and a set designer. They sent me to a Montessori school until I was 13 where I was able to dance, sing, act, create performances and teach the kindergarten drama to my heart’s content. I never stopped exploring these passions.

I moved to England to do study Drama in Canterbury and this is where my passion for devising was ignited. I went on to train in Physical Theatre and Devising at the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA) for two years where every two weeks we had to form a group and make a show and perform it to the whole school. This is where I learnt to think fast, say yes and respect each creative idea. I set up a theatre company and put on two shows which taught me above all things to trust in the magic of not micro managing and trusting the instincts of my team mates.

Devising is collaborating with other minds to create new work.

I have over 15 years of experience in working on the performance arts with young people. I work as a free-lance drama teacher and specialise in applying the devising ethos to teaching and working with children.

I have travelled widely, lived in Denmark, Israel, India, France, The Netherlands and the UK. I speak Dutch and English fluently, French and German conversationally and know songs in more than 20 languages. I have always been excited about cultural heritage, especially the performing arts and have always let folklore inspire my theatrical practice.

I could never choose. Am I an actress or a singer? A performer or a teacher? A director or collaborator? A travelling adventurer or a mum? I am all those things and after my 36 years of being on this earth I now realise that I don’t need to choose.
